Some of the best include Divorce (including child custody issues) , Wills and Trusts , Landlord Tenant law, , Bankruptcy Guides .What distinguishes the NOLO books is that they explain, illustrate, recommend and then provide a self help solution. In addition they point out the circumstances in which professional help is needed. The newer ones include software to create the documents.Nolo also tells you what will happen in the process.This guide includes both wills and trusts. After living through a parent's probate in California I was determined not to inflict this on my family . Not just the cost but the endless time and abusive fees of probate.Even if you plan to engage an attorney to prepare your documents this guide will let you go to meetings well informed and in a position to ask intelligent questions while not wasting $400/ hour time on a basic education. In addition you will know what information you will need to put together prior to the first meeting. Perhaps most importantly the book will help you formulate your goals and understand the vehicles available to achieve those goals.Finally, I think this is a great book for spouses which will help them understand the process and participate in their partner's process of preparing will and trust documents.Highly recommended
This book (6th edition) has taken a BIG weight off of my mind regarding writing a will. My husband and I currently don't have a will (and apparently have lots of company - reportedly 60% of Americans don't have wills), but I am in the process of changing that with the reassuring help of this book.Yes, you CAN write your own legal will, and it truly isn't difficult. As this book points out, even lawyers use standard forms for wills which they customize to their clients. The NOLO CD that accompanies this book also contains standard forms which you can modify, and it walks you through the different parts of a will and the various decisions you need to make. It also flags decisions/areas that you need to give particularly careful consideration. And it flags more complications situations that might or do require a lawyer (such as, wanting to give more than 50% of your estate to someone other than your spouse).I will say that our situation isn't complicated, our "estate" basically consists of our home and some savings/investment accounts, and we have young children to provide for. I feel very confident that a will written using this book/CD will be completely legal and appropriate.But I think this book would be quite valuable even to people planning to use a lawyer for more complicated estate planning needs, as it explains wills and their components in clear, concise terms.
Great book, and priced right. I setup corporations as serve as a senior business consultant for attorneys and individuals alike, and each year but the NOLO, and Entrepreneur publications to stay updated and for additional insider information. I find them easy to understand, and their information reliable. Laws, and procedures change, so it's important to update these books regularly.
I like this a lot. It takes the apprehension out of making your will. It makes the legal issues easy to understand and tells you, step-by-step, what to do.
V.ery informative
THis book provides good basic information for completing a will. Therefore, do not rely soley on it. It would not hurt to have an attorney to review your completed will after following the guidelines outlined in the books.
The enclosed DVD makes writing a will as easy as filling in the blanks.
