About the Author

Suhail Doi is associate professor of clinical epidemiology at the University of Queensland. He is involved in teaching, student supervision, curriculum development and research. He has published widely and his interest lies in research that addresses unanswered questions in patient care as well as questions related to methods of research design and analysis used in medicine. Thus his research focuses on patient care topics such as epidemiology, prognosis and treatments of disease as well as methodology especially that related to meta-analysis. He is the co-author of the Doi–Thalib method for meta-analysis which was introduced in 2008 as an alternative to the random effects model. Gail Williams is professor of international health statistics at the University of Queensland. She has had long involvement in curriculum development and teaching in graduate programs in biostatistics and epidemiology, as well as consulting in clinical medicine and public health. Her specific areas of expertise include design and analysis of longitudinal studies, clinical and field intervention trials, survey design, and mathematical modelling. The focus of her applied research has been maternal and child health, a range of infectious diseases, and skin cancer. Her methodological areas of interest lie in statistical and mathematical modelling and approaches to dealing with attrition in longitudinal studies.

This is a good book for PH students and researchers.

This book addresses topics that are important to health researchers that is not typically covered by other epidemiology/methods textbooks, such as inter rater agreement. All researchers will find this book super useful. It is straightforward to follow.

I am a CAD designer for a sportswear company and I work with illustrator and photoshop every day.I found the book very helpful in my work.It is good for reviewing applications as well as applying new ones. Everything is explained well and beautifully illustrated. My work has improved. A colleague at work also bought the book and is pleased with the results. I am very happy I bought the book and highly recommend it.

I am so happy I invested in this book!After 30 years in the fashion industry, I am finally required to use Illustrator for my job. I started teaching myself using another book of tutorials soI know basic flat technical sketching but I get stuck on some techniques. This book explains so many things in very easy to understand and to followsteps. I am working with a new fashion school grad and she is amazed with this book as well.

If you work this book all the way through, you will have a nice library of symbols, patterns, and know-how to create just about anything fashion oriented in illustrator. This was my second illustrator book for fashion, and I learned much more in this than the other one.

What is a repeat boundary box?!?!?! The authors keep using this term but I do not see where they define it or show its location, and therefore cannot do any of the stitches!!! It is not a bounding box.Useless!!!

If you are a fashion professional who wants to learn how to use Illustrator this is the book to get! What I enjoyed the most is that this book teaches real world skills that you would need to know in the workplace not fluff that you wouldn't use.

Until his Greenland crossing on skis, few outside of Norway, or Scandinavia at the most, had heard of skiing, although of course it had existed there for centuries. The early chapter of the book on skis and "skilobing" (skiing) is a marvelous account of the sport, and particularly of Sondre Norheim and the Telemarkers who revolutionized it as recreation.Nansen writes the book in what can only be called a charming tone. He makes the crossing of the icecap seem easy, and indeed, most of the harrowing detail of the expedition relates to the efforts of the party after being dropped off at sea on the east coast of Greenland, through the ice floes with great difficulty, to an eventual landing and a hard climb up to the central ice plateau. There is also considerable detail given about the way of life of the Eskimo and Danish inhabitants of the Greenland west coast, where Nansen and his party overwintered after the crossing.A classic of "cold exploration" and a lively style and good read after more than a century.

I was very happy to see an additional Secret Stories of Walt Disney World from Jim Korkis - having much enjoyed Jim's previous books of this subject as well as his numerous other books about various facets of Walt Disney, Disneyland, and Walt Disney World. I especially enjoyed reading around little known parts of Walt Disney World - some I never knew about and others I had forgotten about. The "Look Inside" feature that Amazon offers gives a nice listing of the contents of the book. I enjoyed the entire book but I especially enjoyed the information on the "Things That Never Were" and the "Things That Disappeared". As usual, I very much enjoy and appreciate Jim's attention to detail and accuracy in the information he shares. Anyone who is interested in Walt Disney World Parks, Resorts, and WDW history should much enjoy this book. I hope you enjoy this book just as much as I have - just as I have also enjoyed Jim's numerous books about Disney.

Jim Korkis is a great motivator to encouraging one to take in the insights about Walt Disney World. His composition style in his books is easy to read and follow. I have named this book and the others before it the "Secret Stories of Walt Disney World series." The comprehensive information he has written in this book is similar to the organization of the others in the group-the sections are short, sweet, and what I consider ideal to the point.I enjoy reading these books and then reflecting on the information when I'm at Walt Disney World and even when I'm not. I delighted in reading this book as well. I'm jovial when I learn something new about the resort, yet I especially like when I read about something and can form an association to it because I have seen it. Some portray this as the "lightbulb going off inside your head." And when this happens, Jim Korkis has prevailed in not only entertaining and informing you as an author but educating you as well.

I appreciate that Jim Korkis has condensed the stories he has included in this book into short articles that provide just the right amount of information without being overly verbose. He has done a great service for the Disney Company by documenting these stories. When you read one of his Disney books, it is obvious that he has a passion for the subject and a commitment to accuracy.

This is a fun book, full of great information about Disney.

Not so secret. Less entertaining than other Korkis books. I loved and savored each page of the previous versions. This was a bit boring.

Another great book from Jim Korkis. More intriguing stories about everything WDW. Can't wait to read the next book by him.

I have been doing IF on and off over the years. I recently had biometric testing which resulted in learning about my blood sugar and weight level increase and I may need to move forward in getting back on a better diet using IF to helping with my health, insulin and fasting blood sugar levels. Also, since my goal is reducing my body mass, I've also looked into ways on what influences the hormone Ghrelin to help with hunger which is covered in Chapter 7.An easy read, learning book on intermittent fasting with lots and lots of research references. I found it very helpful for those getting started with IF and with the suggestions in the book, making this a very doable lifestyle plan for those interested.I highly suggest this read if you are looking to improve your life through IF.

Poorly written. Contains contradictory information. Appears to be just a quick attempt to jump on the fasting bandwagon. That said, please don't let this discourage anyone from trying intermittent fasting. It is working for me and nowhere near as difficult as I thought it would be.

I really enjoyed reading this and learned quite a few new things. I already knew that fasting was effective for weight loss but was surprised to learn how many other health benefits it has. For instance, how fasting could help to improve our leptin and insulin or even be used to help treat cancer and diabetes. Great book, do yourself a favor and read this.

"Let Love" is so perfectly narrated that you forget the characters are fictional. These are people that you can relate to or you know in your personal lives that fit the description . There is always the need to read page after page because as you relate to the characters you are eager to see the character's faith. Reading this book will cause outbursts such as "OMG!"..."No!"....and it's from excitement of feeling like you are actually there and actually know the people . This was the first time in years I read a book start to finish & I am in love with it. Some of these fairy tales are not something people of our culture can relate to. Reading the biography, I'm in amazement the author wrote this book in jr high, that's some real talent and maturity. The bittersweet moment when the book ends has you feeling eager like a fiend waiting for the next hit....had to get my fix ..it's off to "Let Love 2"

This year new book "Let Love" by Kellan Esperance is the best book I have ever read since my early high school years. I read this book in less than 24 hours. I was surprise how emotional I was during this book, I mean I was sad, happy, laughed and cried. After reading the book I was itching for part two, but most of all more I wanted to read more of this talented authors work. In Let Love I felt like I was each character and in many ways I sympathize with their lost, pain, frustration and throughout the book I couldn't help but cheer and pray for their growth, and happy ending. Miss Esperance's book "Let Love" deserve to be shelved with other urban authors such as Zane, Sister Souljah, R.D. Ronald, Omar Tyree, Wahida Clark etc, And In My Opinion I guarantee that Miss Esperance book "Let Love" and Future book would give these other authors a run for their money or even better blow them out the competition.-Manoucheka Luma

With my busy lifestyle, it is hard to read and finish a good book. I was done with this book in no time. I was hooked to the characters and their stories as i read read each juicy page. Definitely recommended to anyone with a pair of eyes!!

Loved this book... Very well written! David and Veronica kept my attention throughout the entire story. I was rooting for them from the very beginning. I really hope that the author does a spin off with those two characters! The love between them was so touching. Trina's went through some shit but i was glad when things got better for her. Urban books is something I enjoy reading, and Let Love was one of those books that just caught my attention from beginning to end. I enjoyed it so much that I literally started up late nights and actually felt a connection with each person in the book. I'm so looking forward to pt2. CANT WAIT!!!!! I recommend this to all age groups, because we all can relate to a particle character.

Few books have been read more than once by me and "The Truth" by Neil Strauss is in that list. As with Esther Perel's books, although of an autobiographical style, Strauss deftly blends blunt language (Strauss is more crass) with the clever. "Guilt is just about your behavior. Shame is about who you are," will remain me throughout my life. I've actually been experimenting with the idea this book somehow stimulated (along with Dr. Perel's): shame often leads to perversion.Trauma and shame are at the center of this sometimes lurid story. We laugh at and hurt with Strauss as he explores relationship configurations that he hopes will meet his idealistic expectations, and questions those expectations as he confronts the shame resulting from his trauma.Just as Strauss at one point realizes that he doesn't feel THAT much guilt about his transgressions, I feel just a bit of hesitation as I type, "This is a fun book to read!" Props to Strauss for focusing on The Truth as we all confront a reality of an aging marital constitution associated with a 50% divorce rate according to some and possibly a similar rate of infidelity. In pursuing the truth, Strauss reveals elements about his life and thinking that are disturbing, and sometimes familiar to many of us. Where he deviates from the decisions most of us make is in his courageous and accidentally self-sacrificing action. We can learn from his mistakes and at least vicariously enjoy his successes.A few quotes that I want to share:* "In the pages that follow, I attempt to solve a much tougher life dilemma: What should I do after she likes me back?"* They don’t care about you. These are hurt and abused women. And you’re reenacting their childhood trauma."* "90 percent of sex addicts entering treatment are men because guys tend to act out, while roughly 90 percent of people with eating disorders are women because they tend to act in."* It’s people with compulsive behaviors who change the world."* "[...] trauma compromises the brain area that communicates the physical, embodied feeling of being alive" (from a book The Truth inspired me to read, "The Body Keeps The Score" by Bessel van der Kolk M.D.). Strauss breaks rules so including this quote feels appropriate enough. I read in Strauss's writing, and Esther Perel's more explicitly, that people often cheat to feel more alive.Finally, thank you Neil for including "An Incomplete Guide to Love for the Incomplete Man".

This book messed me up, and I'm grateful for that.More accurately, it helped me realize that I was already a lot more messed up than I'm comfortable admitting.I never read his earlier Pickup books, and lived a life that's nothing like a sex addict's, so when this came recommended from some people I respect, I wondered if there was anything in it for me.The Truth is an insanely vulnerable, honest, and introspective dive into what it's like to be a broken, traumatized person, and the paths that wind both forward and backward on the way to self improvement and self acceptance. And they're a meditation on why that impossible seeming journey might actually be worthwhile.I got through 450 pages in 3 nights. It was enrapturing. Through the author's brave confrontations of the seemingly cliche origins of his misbehaviors (is it REALLY all about childhood and your parents and Freudian tropes? Yep!), I followed a similar path to some of my own unpleasant truths, that were very different in origin, and yet so similarly damaging. The honesty with which he embraced his hard truths helped me to stop being dismissive of my own.Sometimes someone tells you something you don't want to hear, but that you undeniably need to. This is one of those times.Thanks Neil.

I remember stumbling across the author's other book, The Game, a few years ago. I'm a woman and the description of the book immediately made me think of this womanizing ex-coworker of mine, who used to brag about his conquests as if he's reaping the rewards of the unresolved daddy issues of these beautiful women. And it all worked because he knew a thing or two about manipulation and games. Needless to say, I rolled my eyes and move on with my online book shopping never expecting to read any of his books. Recently, an author I do like and subscribe to, sent an email about this book and bits and pieces from the book. I got a bit intrigued and decided to purchase this to diversify my book collection, which is starting to look lopsided subject-wise. When the book arrived, I started to read it and couldn't put it down.The Truth is intriguing, funny, heartfelt, sometimes annoying and whiny, sometimes makes you want to go up to the author and smack him upside his bald head, and other times you root for him, empathize, and sympathize. And truthfully, you want the happy ending. It is a roller coaster ride of monogamy, psychotherapy, various alternative relationships, orgies, and harems. The author has the writing ability to take you on a journey with him as he bares the entirely human side of him, flaws and all. He is not always like-able but you stick around to see what happens to him. And sprinkled throughout the book are some interesting situations that you wouldn't otherwise witness, some thought provoking questions, and bits and pieces about attachment theory and psychotherapy that the reader can think about and look into while reading this book.The author has a simplistic style of writing and it is an enjoyable book to read. However, there are times his self-deprecating humor goes too far and it can become self-loathing. He sometimes put himself in situations that are obviously bad and selfish but he does it anyway, other times he's this awkward guy that starts to annoy you, or he whines and self loathes for pages and you just want to swiftly kick his behind. Then you realize, this is a book about one man's journey in figuring himself out and what type of relationship he wants to have in his life so he's not going to get his poop together until he figures some things out. Along the (mis)adventures of Neil Strauss, you do get some laugh out loud moments, some eye opening moments, and some thought provoking moments. I never thought I would say this but I would recommend reading this book.
