This is an excellent primer for new users to QGIS. This book provides step by step instructions to add data, prepare a workspace, symbolize vector and raster data, and perform spatial queries. If that was all the book did, it would be excellent. But it adds an extra section of practice tasks designed to make the reader more proficient with the software. And then it adds extra sections on using the free GRASS GIS that comes bundled with QGIS and even more information on the advanced terrain analysis plugins that are also available. All of this is tied to a site selection problem.The book is extremely well thought out, the color images make it easier to follow, and if you were starting to learn QGIS, this is the place to start. No GIS book can be perfect, however, because there is so much ground to cover. This book will work best for people who are already slightly familiar with GIS and want to know how to use QGIS.GIS was the last software I did not have an open source alternative for. The sophistication and power of QGIS has changed that, this book is the best place to start.
This is a great primer for QGIS! Could use some work on English translation and also fill in some missing steps in the "follow along" sections. But overall an excellent book. Kudos to the authors.
